MSC Cruises is a brand-new player in Alaska, with MSC Poesia currently sailing the cruise line’s first season in the region.
The ship began operating seven-night cruises from Seattle in May 2026, visiting destinations including Ketchikan, Juneau, Icy Strait Point and Endicott Arm, along with a stop in Victoria, British Columbia. Before arriving in Seattle, MSC Poesia also received a major refurbishment that added MSC Yacht Club, new specialty restaurants and updated wellness spaces.
Now that the first sailings are complete, early guest reviews are beginning to give us a better idea of how MSC is being received in Alaska.

Early guests have reported opportunities to see humpback whales, orcas, seals, sea lions, otters, porpoises, eagles and even bears.
Icy Strait Point has also received positive feedback for its relaxed atmosphere and wildlife. One family called it their favorite port and witnessed humpback whales bubble-net feeding during their visit.
MSC Yacht Club May Be a Great Match for Alaska
One of the biggest changes to MSC Poesia was the addition of a completely new MSC Yacht Club with 69 suites!
Yacht Club guests receive access to a private restaurant, sundeck, bar and the Top Sail Lounge, along with 24-hour butler and concierge service. The lounge stretches across the front of the ship and has nearly floor-to-ceiling windows, making it a particularly appealing place to watch for whales or enjoy the scenery without standing outside in the cold.
A recent Condé Nast Traveler review praised the peaceful atmosphere in the Top Sail Lounge, along with the attentive service and comfortable viewing areas. For guests considering Yacht Club in Alaska, the combination of a quiet lounge, panoramic windows and included service may be one of MSC Poesia’s biggest advantages.
Food and Entertainment Are Getting Positive Reactions
Food is always subjective, but there has been encouraging feedback about several of MSC Poesia’s dining options.
One recent passenger praised the main dining room, buffet, MSC pizza and the newly added Kaito Sushi Bar. The ship has also introduced Alaska-inspired drinks and menu items, while keeping familiar MSC favorites like Italian coffee and live music throughout the lounges.
Entertainment has also been a highlight for some guests. Early reviews have complimented the live musicians, theater productions, White Night and the new Dirty Dancing in Concert experience. MSC Is Still Fine-Tuning Its Alaska Operations
Because this is MSC’s first season in Alaska, there are naturally a few areas the cruise line is still working to refine.
Some guests have mentioned unclear announcements or delays surrounding tender operations, particularly in Juneau. MSC does not always receive the same docking positions as cruise lines that have been operating in Alaska for decades, so passengers on certain sailings may need to use tender boats before the ship can move to an available dock.
The actual excursions and onboard service have generally received better feedback than the communication surrounding some port days. As the season continues, clearer instructions and a more consistent tender process could make the experience much smoother.

Still, the overall picture is more encouraging than negative. MSC Poesia may be especially appealing to travelers who already enjoy the MSC experience, prefer a more traditional mid-sized cruise ship or want to try Yacht Club while sailing through Alaska.
