MSC Cruises Confirms Third Alaska Season With MSC Poesia in 2028

MSC Cruises is staying in Alaska!
The cruise line has opened bookings for its third consecutive Alaska season, confirming that MSC Poesia will return to Seattle throughout summer 2028.
The announcement comes during MSC’s inaugural Alaska season in 2026. While the cruise line is still relatively new to the region, confirming sailings through 2028 suggests Alaska is becoming a long-term part of MSC’s North American plans.
MSC says Alaska has quickly become one of its most popular destinations, with strong demand since the program launched earlier this year.
When Will MSC Sail Alaska in 2028?
MSC Poesia’s 2028 Alaska season will begin on April 24 and continue through September 18.
The ship will operate weekly seven-night cruises roundtrip from Seattle, making the itineraries convenient for guests who prefer to begin and end their cruise in the same city.
MSC has also already opened bookings for its second Alaska season in 2027, which is scheduled to run from April 26 through September 27. Together, the schedules confirm at least three consecutive summers of MSC cruises in Alaska.
Where Will MSC Poesia Visit in Alaska?
The 2028 itineraries will include several of Alaska’s best-known ports and scenic destinations.

- Icy Strait Point, Alaska
- Tracy Arm, Alaska
- Juneau, Alaska
- Victoria, British Columbia
Tracy Arm will provide the main scenic-cruising experience. The narrow fjord is known for steep mountains, waterfalls and views of the Sawyer Glaciers.
Guests may also have opportunities to see whales, orcas, bald eagles, bears, otters and harbor seals during the cruise. MSC says passengers have already reported whale sightings directly from the ship during its first Alaska season.
MSC Poesia Was Upgraded for Alaska
MSC Poesia received a major refurbishment before beginning its first Alaska cruises in 2026.
The biggest change was the addition of a new MSC Yacht Club with 69 suites, a private restaurant, Top Sail Lounge and a dedicated outdoor sundeck with whirlpools, a bar and a grill. Yacht Club guests also receive 24-hour butler and concierge service.
MSC also added two specialty restaurants: Butcher’s Cut steakhouse and Kaito Sushi Bar.
Other improvements included an expanded MSC Aurea Spa, an updated gym powered by Technogym and the Top 15 Exclusive Solarium for Aurea guests.
These upgrades help MSC Poesia offer a more modern onboard experience while retaining the feel of a smaller, more traditional MSC ship.
What Does a Third Season Mean for MSC?
Confirming a third Alaska season this early is an encouraging sign for MSC’s expansion into the region.
Alaska has traditionally been dominated by cruise lines with decades of experience there. MSC only began sailing from Seattle in 2026, so it is still building awareness among travelers who may not have previously considered the brand for an Alaska cruise.
Early guest feedback has highlighted the scenery, wildlife, crew and refreshed condition of MSC Poesia. MSC has also been refining port-day communication and other operational details as it gains more experience in the region.
By committing to another full season in 2028, MSC will have more time to establish itself in Seattle and develop its Alaska cruise experience.
MSC Poesia Will Also Sail Through the Panama Canal
At the beginning and end of its Alaska seasons, MSC Poesia will offer longer MSC Grand Voyages between Miami and Seattle.
These repositioning cruises include a transit through the Panama Canal and connect the ship’s winter Caribbean schedule with its summers in Alaska.
That gives guests another way to experience MSC Poesia beyond the standard seven-night Alaska itinerary.

MSC Cruises may be new to Alaska, but it does not appear to be treating the destination as a one-season experiment.
