Ocean Cay Will Soon Welcome Two Ships at the Same Time

Beginning in late 2027, two cruise ships will be able to dock at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve at the same time.

MSC Cruises announced earlier this year that construction had begun on an extension of Ocean Cay’s existing pier. The project will add capacity for a second ship while still allowing guests to walk directly from their vessel onto the island rather than tendering ashore. MSC expects the expanded pier to be completed in late 2027.

Already, future cruise schedules are beginning to show what that will actually look like.

When Will Two Ships First Visit Ocean Cay Together?

Based on currently published schedules, the first double-ship day appears to be November 15, 2027, when both MSC World Atlantic and MSC Seashore are scheduled to visit Ocean Cay.

MSC World Atlantic is scheduled to arrive at approximately 8 a.m. as part of its inaugural Caribbean season from Port Canaveral. MSC Seashore is also scheduled to visit Ocean Cay that same day from Miami.

And it does not appear to be a one-time event.

The very next day, November 16, current schedules show both MSC Grandiosa and MSC Seaside staying overnight at the island. On November 19, MSC World America and Explora IV are scheduled together, followed by MSC Grandiosa and MSC Seaside again on November 20.

Cruise schedules can always change before 2027, but the pattern clearly lines up with MSC’s plan to have the second berth operational by late that year.

Ocean Cay’s Pier Is Being Expanded

Ocean Cay currently has one cruise-ship berth, which means only one MSC ship can dock directly at the island at a time.

MSC confirmed in January that the pier is being extended specifically to allow two ships to dock simultaneously. This is not a tender operation or a temporary workaround. Once completed, both ships will be able to berth at Ocean Cay and allow passengers to walk ashore.

That additional capacity is becoming increasingly important as MSC continues to add ships and sailings from Florida. MSC World Atlantic alone will begin year-round Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral in November 2027, with Ocean Cay included on both its Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.

Will Ocean Cay Be More Crowded?

Two ships obviously have the potential to bring significantly more guests onto Ocean Cay at the same time, especially if two World Class ships are scheduled to dock together.

However, MSC appears to be preparing for that increased capacity with a much larger island upgrade scheduled for the same general timeframe.

Four additional dining experiences are planned, bringing the island to seven dining venues in total. Seakers Cove will become a larger family area with a splashpad, playground and ropes course, while the new Paradise Sands area will provide an adults-only beach retreat. MSC is also adding more cabanas and a new marine-conservation experience.

Whether two-ship days actually feel noticeably busier will be something we will have to see once the new pier opens. Ocean Cay has more than two miles of beachfront across eight beaches, so guests also tend to spread out much more than they would at a traditional cruise port.

A Big Change for Ocean Cay

Until now, seeing an MSC ship docked at Ocean Cay has essentially meant having the island shared only with the guests from that vessel.

Starting in late 2027, that will begin to change.

Current schedules already show several days with two ships visiting simultaneously, beginning with MSC World Atlantic and MSC Seashore on November 15.

With a second berth, new restaurants, expanded family areas and a new adults-only beach all planned, late 2027 could represent one of the biggest changes to the Ocean Cay experience since the island opened in 2019.
