What Is Aurea on MSC Cruises? Everything You Need to Know
When booking an MSC cruise, you may see the same general type of cabin offered with Bella, Fantastica or Aurea. These are called MSC Experiences, and the experience you choose determines which additional benefits come with your reservation.
Aurea is MSC’s most premium experience outside of MSC Yacht Club. It includes all Fantastica benefits, along with guaranteed flexible dining, access to the Thermal Area, priority boarding, an exclusive sundeck and several other extras.
However, Aurea is not a separate section of the ship like Yacht Club, and it is not simply a spa package. It is a bundle of additional benefits attached to selected cabins and suites.
Aurea is currently available with selected balcony cabins and suites. It is also offered with Infinite Ocean View cabins aboard MSC World America, MSC World Asia and MSC World Europa. MSC currently excludes balcony cabins aboard MSC Armonia, MSC Lirica and MSC Sinfonia from the Aurea Experience.
Aurea is best thought of as an upgraded bundle of benefits added to an eligible cabin, not a private ship-within-a-ship experience.
What Is Included With the MSC Aurea Experience?
Aurea includes all the standard benefits offered with Fantastica, including the ability to choose an available cabin and location, one complimentary cruise change, free delivery of continental breakfast and free room-service delivery.
Aurea then adds several dining, relaxation and priority benefits.
- Guaranteed My Choice flexible dining
- Access to the Thermal Area for adults
- Access to the Top Exclusive Solarium
- Priority boarding and luggage drop-off
- A welcome package with Prosecco and chocolates
- A pillow menu
- A 10% discount on spa treatments purchased onboard
- Free continental-breakfast delivery
- Free 24-hour room-service delivery
- One complimentary cruise change
- The ability to choose an available cabin and location
- Additional benefits when booking an Aurea suite
The exact value of these benefits will depend on how you cruise. Someone who plans to use the Thermal Area every day and dislikes fixed dining may get much more from Aurea than someone who rarely visits the spa and prefers an assigned dinner time.
How Does My Choice Dining Work With Aurea?
My Choice dining is one of the biggest reasons guests choose Aurea.
Bella and Fantastica guests are normally assigned a set dinner time, although they can request a preferred seating. Aurea guests receive guaranteed flexible dining within the main restaurant’s open dining hours.
Instead of eating at the same assigned time every night, you can arrive during the available dining period. MSC will assign Aurea guests a designated area within one of the ship’s main dining rooms.
MSC says Aurea guests can dine without making a reservation. You simply check in at your assigned restaurant when you are ready, although the restaurant may still have a short wait during its busiest periods.
This can make planning your evenings much easier. You do not have to rush back from port, leave the pool at a specific time or arrange your entertainment around the same dinner seating every night.
Is My Choice Different From Dine on Your Time?
MSC introduced another flexible option called Dine on Your Time aboard MSC Seashore and MSC Seaside in 2026. Bella and Fantastica guests on those ships may select it when booking or request it onboard.
The important difference is that Dine on Your Time is subject to availability. My Choice dining is guaranteed for Aurea guests and is not dependent on remaining capacity.
That means flexible dining remains a meaningful Aurea benefit, even on ships where another open-dining program is available.
Does Aurea Include Access to the MSC Aurea Spa?
Aurea guests receive access to the Thermal Area inside the MSC Aurea Spa for the duration of the cruise.
The facilities vary considerably from one ship to another. Depending on the ship, the Thermal Area may include saunas, steam rooms, heated loungers, whirlpools, salt rooms, snow rooms and other hot-and-cold experiences.
MSC requires Thermal Area visits to be scheduled by appointment. Access is limited to guests who are at least 18 years old, and pregnant guests cannot use heat treatments within the Thermal Area.
Aurea does not include complimentary massages, facials, salon appointments or other spa treatments. Those services still cost extra, although Aurea guests receive a 10% discount on treatments purchased onboard.
Is the MSC Aurea Spa the Same as the Aurea Experience?
No. The similar names cause plenty of confusion.
The MSC Aurea Spa is the physical spa and wellness facility found aboard MSC ships. Guests do not have to book the Aurea Experience to purchase a massage, facial, salon service or Thermal Area pass.
The Aurea Experience is the package of reservation benefits that comes with selected cabins. Complimentary Thermal Area access is simply one of those benefits.
In other words, anyone can visit the MSC Aurea Spa and pay for available services. Aurea Experience guests receive Thermal Area access and the onboard treatment discount as part of their reservation.
What Is the Aurea-Only Solarium?
Aurea guests receive access to the ship’s Top Exclusive Solarium.
This is a separate outdoor relaxation area with loungers and a generally quieter atmosphere than the main pool decks. The name, location and amenities vary by ship, and some ships have significantly larger Aurea areas than others.
You should not assume the solarium will have its own swimming pool, whirlpool or dedicated bar. Those features depend on the ship. MSC’s standard Aurea benefit is access to the exclusive solarium itself.
Even without a private pool, the solarium can be valuable during a busy sea day when loungers around the main pools are difficult to find.
Does Aurea Include Priority Boarding?
Yes. Aurea includes priority boarding and priority luggage drop-off at the cruise terminal.
This can shorten the amount of time spent waiting during embarkation, although the exact process will depend on the terminal and how busy it is when you arrive.
Priority tendering and priority disembarkation are different. MSC currently lists those two benefits only for guests staying in an Aurea suite. Guests in a standard Aurea balcony or Infinite Ocean View cabin should not assume that they receive priority when leaving the ship at every port.
What Extra Benefits Come With an Aurea Suite?
Aurea suites receive all the regular Aurea benefits, along with several suite-only extras.
- Priority tendering
- Priority disembarkation
- An in-suite espresso machine
- Complimentary ironing for two items per suite
- The first set of minibar items included
MSC also describes Aurea suites as including premium relaxation amenities such as bathrobes, slippers and MED bath products.
These benefits do not automatically apply to every balcony or Infinite Ocean View cabin booked with Aurea. When comparing prices, make sure you know whether you are looking at an Aurea balcony or an actual Aurea suite.
Does Aurea Include a Drink Package?
No. A drink package is not included as a standard benefit of the current MSC Aurea Experience.
Aurea guests receive a welcome package containing Prosecco and chocolates, but that should not be confused with an unlimited beverage package. Guests who want drinks included throughout the cruise must purchase a package separately unless their specific fare or promotion already bundles one into the booking.
This is worth checking carefully because some older Aurea reviews describe benefits that are no longer part of the standard package.
Does Aurea Include Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi is also not included as a standard Aurea benefit.
Internet access can be purchased separately or included through a particular booking promotion. The included drink and internet packages are two of the major differences between Aurea and MSC Yacht Club.
Is Room Service Free With Aurea?
Room-service delivery is complimentary with Aurea because it is already included as a Fantastica benefit.
However, free delivery does not mean that every item on the room-service menu is free. MSC currently states that individual food items may be priced separately. On Caribbean cruises, an upgraded dinner menu may also be available.
Continental breakfast delivery is complimentary, which can be useful when you want coffee and a light breakfast in your cabin before an early excursion.
Aurea vs Fantastica: What Is the Difference?
Fantastica is a good choice for guests who want to select their cabin and receive a few additional conveniences. Aurea adds more flexibility, relaxation and priority benefits.
| Benefit | Fantastica | Aurea |
|---|---|---|
| Choose an available cabin and location | Yes | Yes |
| One complimentary cruise change | Yes | Yes |
| Free continental-breakfast delivery | Yes | Yes |
| Free room-service delivery | Yes | Yes |
| Guaranteed My Choice dining | No | Yes |
| Thermal Area access | No | Yes |
| Exclusive solarium access | No | Yes |
| Priority boarding and luggage drop-off | No | Yes |
| Prosecco and chocolate welcome package | No | Yes |
| Pillow menu | No | Yes |
| 10% onboard spa-treatment discount | No | Yes |
| Suite-only priority and minibar benefits | No | Selected Aurea suites |
The main decision is whether you value flexible dining, spa access, a quieter sundeck and priority boarding enough to pay the difference between a comparable Fantastica and Aurea cabin.
Is Aurea the Same as MSC Yacht Club?
No. Aurea is an upgraded experience within the regular areas of the ship. MSC Yacht Club is a private, keycard-accessed section with its own suites, restaurant, lounge and pool deck.
Yacht Club also includes a 24-hour butler, dedicated concierge, Premium Extra drink package and an unlimited Browse internet package for two devices per person. Aurea does not include those services.
Aurea is a good middle ground for guests who want extra flexibility and relaxation without paying for the complete Yacht Club experience.
Aurea gives you several of MSC’s most useful upgrades, but you will still use the ship’s regular restaurants, bars, entertainment venues and public areas.
How Much Does Aurea Cost?
MSC does not charge one standard Aurea upgrade price.
The difference depends on the ship, sailing date, itinerary, cabin category, cabin location, current promotions and how many Aurea cabins remain available.
It is also important to compare similar accommodations. An Aurea suite may cost considerably more than a Fantastica balcony partly because you are moving into a larger and more premium cabin, not simply paying for the Aurea benefits.
The best comparison is usually between an Aurea balcony and a Fantastica balcony on the same sailing. You can then decide whether the Thermal Area, guaranteed flexible dining, priority boarding and solarium access justify the difference.
Is the MSC Aurea Experience Worth It?
Aurea can be worth the upgrade, but it depends heavily on which benefits you will actually use.
It is especially appealing for guests who plan to visit the Thermal Area more than once. Purchasing spa access separately can add to the cost of the cruise, while Aurea allows eligible adults to use it throughout the sailing by appointment.
Guaranteed My Choice dining can be just as valuable. Not having to organize every day around an assigned dinner time gives you more freedom in port and onboard.
The exclusive solarium and priority boarding add convenience, but they may not be enough on their own to justify a large fare difference.
Aurea may be less valuable for guests who do not use thermal spas, are happy with assigned dining or would rather spend the upgrade amount on a drink package, specialty restaurants or shore excursions.
Who Should Book Aurea?
- Guests who want guaranteed flexible dining
- Adults who plan to use the Thermal Area regularly
- Cruisers who prefer a quieter outdoor sundeck
- Guests who value priority boarding
- Travelers who want a better-positioned balcony or suite
- Couples looking for extra relaxation without booking Yacht Club
- Guests who find an Aurea fare only moderately higher than Fantastica
Who May Not Need Aurea?
- Guests who prefer a fixed dinner time
- Travelers who do not plan to use the spa
- Families with children who cannot use the adults-only Thermal Area
- Guests who primarily want drinks or Wi-Fi included
- Budget-focused cruisers who would rather spend the difference elsewhere
- Travelers expecting a private restaurant, lounge or butler service
The Bottom Line
The MSC Aurea Experience sits between Fantastica and MSC Yacht Club, offering several meaningful upgrades without moving guests into a completely separate part of the ship.
Its biggest benefits are guaranteed My Choice dining, Thermal Area access, the exclusive solarium and priority boarding. Aurea suites add further advantages, including priority tendering, priority disembarkation and several in-cabin extras.
Just remember that Aurea does not automatically include a drink package, Wi-Fi, massages or Yacht Club-style service.
Before booking, compare the Aurea fare with a similar Fantastica cabin on the same cruise. For guests who will use the spa and appreciate flexible dining, Aurea can be one of the most practical upgrades MSC offers.
